Semi-permanent eyebrows are a cosmetic tattooing technique that enhances the shape, fullness, and definition of your brows using pigment implanted just beneath the skin. Unlike traditional tattoos, the results are softer, more natural-looking, and fade gradually over time—typically lasting 1 to 3 years, depending on skin type and lifestyle. This service is perfect for anyone looking to save time in their daily routine, fill in sparse areas, or achieve a more symmetrical brow shape. It’s especially ideal for those with thin, over-plucked, or uneven brows or for anyone who wants long-lasting, low-maintenance beauty.

The process of getting semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos begins with a personalized consultation where we discuss your overall brow goals. Next, the brows are carefully mapped and shaped to complement your facial features. Using a specialized machine or manual tool, pigment is then implanted into the upper layers of the skin with precise, hair-like strokes or soft shading techniques. The entire session typically takes 3-4 hours (sometimes longer). Afterward, you'll receive aftercare instructions to support proper healing, and a touch-up appointment is usually scheduled 6–8 weeks later to perfect the results.

I highly recommend that new clients schedule their microblading appointments at least 3–4 months before any vacations, weddings, or special events. This timeline allows enough time for both the initial healing process and a follow-up touch-up session, typically done 6–8 weeks after your first appointment, to ensure your brows are fully healed and looking their best.

Powder Ombre Brow: Powder ombré brows use a technique that creates a soft, shaded brow pencil look with a gradient effect—lighter at the front and gradually darker toward the tail. This method uses a machine to gently layer pigment into the skin, resulting in a polished, defined shape that still looks natural. Ideal for all skin types, especially oily or mature skin, powder ombré brows are perfect for anyone who wants fuller, longer-lasting brows with minimal daily maintenance.

Combo Brows (most popular): Combo brows use a technique that combines the best of both worlds—hair-like strokes at the front of the brow (using the nano method) and soft shading throughout the rest of the brow (using the powder ombré method). This blend creates a natural yet defined look with added depth and dimension. Combo brows are perfect for those who want the realism of hair strokes with the fullness and longevity of shading. They work well for most skin types and are especially great for clients with sparse brows or those looking to enhance their overall shape and density.

Nano Brows: Nano brows are a highly advanced form of semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing that uses a digital machine and an ultra-fine needle to create incredibly precise, hair-like strokes. This technique mimics the natural look of real brow hairs with soft, detailed lines, making it perfect for those looking to enhance sparse or uneven brows with a natural finish. Unlike microblading, nano brows are gentler on the skin and better suited for all skin types, including sensitive or oily skin. The results are long-lasting, beautifully defined, and require minimal maintenance.

FAQs

  • To ensure the best results from your semi-permanent brow treatment, please follow these pre-care instructions.

    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) for 24 hours before your appointment, as these can increase sensitivity and bleeding.

    • Refrain from using retinol, glycolic acid, or other exfoliating products such as AHA on or near the brow area for at least four weeks prior.

    • Do not get Botox, filler, chemical peels, or tanning treatments on or around the brows 2–3 weeks before your appointment.

    • Avoid waxing, threading, or tinting your brows at least 3 days before.

    • Please arrive with clean skin and no makeup on your brows.

    • Refrain from consuming alcohol and caffeine for at least 24-48 hours before your appointment, as they can thin the blood and potentially lead to excessive bleeding during the procedure

    • Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated

    • Do not work out 24 hours before the procedure.

    • Avoid sun and tanning one week before the procedure.

    • Avoid Fish Oil, Prenatal Vitamins, Nutritional Shakes (Shakeology, etc), and “Hair, Skin, Nail” supplements 48 hours before the procedure (Can also thin the blood)

Following these steps helps ensure your skin is in the best condition for optimal pigment retention and healing.

  • After your semi-permanent brow appointment, proper aftercare is key to achieving the best results. For the first 7–10 days, keep the area clean and dry—avoid getting your brows wet, sweating excessively, or applying makeup directly on them. Gently cleanse around the area with a damp cotton pad if needed, and apply the recommended healing ointment only if needed.

Avoid touching, picking, or scratching the brows as they heal, even if flaking or scabbing occurs. Stay out of direct sunlight, saunas, getting them wet under the shower, and swimming pools during the healing process. Following these steps will help your brows heal beautifully and ensure long-lasting, even results.

Be mindful of which activities you partake in that can get your brows dirty or expose them to bacteria (deep cleaning, dirt, and debris).

Contact a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as the following: fever, redness at the site, swelling, tenderness of the procedure site, elevated body temperature, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, and/or any green/yellow discharge that is foul in odor.

  • Semi-permanent brows are not recommended for everyone. You may not be a suitable candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have uncontrolled diabetes, are currently undergoing chemotherapy, or have a history of keloid scarring. Individuals with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or severe acne in the brow area should also avoid this treatment, as it may affect healing and pigment retention. If you have very oily skin, results may fade more quickly or appear less defined. Those taking blood thinners or certain medications that affect healing should consult with a healthcare provider before booking.

If you have taken Accutane, you should wait one year after treatment as the medication can impact skin healing and color retention. Pre-appointment consultation is always encouraged to ensure this service is safe and effective for you.

Other candidates that might not be the right fit for semi-permanent brows:

    • People with bleeding disorders or who are on long-term anticoagulant (blood-thinning) therapy, as this can cause excessive bleeding and poor pigment retention.

    • Those with autoimmune conditions like lupus or certain thyroid disorders, which can affect healing and pigment retention—consultation with your doctor is recommended.

    • Individuals with recent Botox or filler treatments in the brow or forehead area (within the past 2–3 weeks) should wait until the area has fully settled.

    • People who are prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly those with very sensitive or reactive skin.

    • Anyone who has had recent chemical peels, microneedling, or laser treatments on or near the brow area should wait at least 2–4 weeks, depending on the procedure.

    • Those with epilepsy or seizure disorders should inform the artist, as sudden movements during the procedure could be risky.

    • Allergic to anesthetic (Lidocaine)

    • Sick (cold, flu, etc.)

    • A Pacemaker or major heart problems

    • Viral infections and/or diseases

  • Day 1: Fresh & Bold

Your brows will look very defined, bold, and darker than expected. This is completely normal—pigment sits on top of the skin and will fade as healing progresses. You may experience slight redness or tenderness around the area.

    Day 2–3: Darker Phase

The color may appear even darker and more intense than Day 1. This is due to the natural oxidation of the pigment and the skin beginning to form a light scab. Your brows may feel slightly tight or dry.

    Day 4–5: Flaking Begins

Light flaking or scabbing will start, and you might notice some patchiness as the skin begins to shed. Do not pick or scratch—this can pull out pigment and affect your final result.

    Day 6–7: Patchy & Lighter

Your brows may look lighter or uneven, and in some spots, pigment may appear to have disappeared. This is temporary! The skin is still healing underneath, and the color will begin to resurface.

    Day 8–10: Color Returns

As the healing layer of skin settles, the pigment begins to come back, looking more natural and softened compared to the initial bold look. Your brows will start to look more refined and even.

    After Day 10:

Most of the visible healing is complete, but your skin is still settling. Final results will continue to develop over the next couple of weeks. A touch-up session at 4–6 weeks is usually needed to perfect the shape and color. Once it’s completely healed, try to wear SPF, as sun exposure will lead to a more faded finish.

  • The initial pass can cause some discomfort, but numbing gel is applied during the appointment. Once the numbing gel starts to activate there is virtually no pain.

  • Typically semi-permanent makeup can last 1-3 years, however this is depended on skin type and lifestyle.
